German Biography (ADB/NDB)

The 'Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie' (1873-1912, in English: 'General German Biography') and the 'Neue Deutsche Biographie' (since 1953, in English: 'New German Biographie') are first-ranking information resources on persons who have had an outstanding impact on the German-speaking world from the Middle Ages to the present. In the database, the individual registers of the volumes of the ADB and NDB are cumulated and enriched with supplementary information from the articles. It comprises not only the persons to whom articles in the two encyclopedias are dedicated, but also names, mentioned in the genealogies as well as in the individual and family articles.
