Image Archive

The Bavarian State Library's image archive contains more than 19 million images. The focus is on contemporary documentary photographs spanning the period from the Weimar Republic to the present day. Around 15 million images come from the stern photo archive, whose holdings can be searched in a separate portal. The image portal contains contemporary photographs from numerous photo archives, primarily relating to Bavaria, public figures, scientific and artistic life, ethnography, and views. Prints using original graphic techniques such as woodcuts and copperplate engravings round off the collection, which spans from the 16th to the end of the 20th century.
